Shari continues in our final video of our bespoke series, in this installment we're going to work on the petticoat. The large surface area of the petticoat makes it an ideal canvas to try your hand at any number of embellishing techniques. Looking through various collections of antique Victorian petticoats, you will find some beautiful applications of inset lace, pintucks, pleating, ruching, pintucks, piping, bias trims, embroidery, quilting, cording, ribbon work, and cutwork. We could probably do a whole course on embellishing petticoats... and perhaps we should! To complete this particular series, I am going to show you how to make an interesting layered ruffle inspired by Victorian Era petticoat I came across. It is an easy way to add texture and depth to a plain ruffle.
